We started our trip and adventure to Nepal on Tuesday the 4th of January when we met up with each other at the airport. It was nice to finally meet in person and start to get to know each other. We travelled for over 24 hours and even experienced the chaos of Indian airports so we were delighted to arrive in Kathmandu. The flight into Kathmandu had the most incredible views of the city and the snowy peaks of the Himalayas peeking through the clouds. As we landed we were all tired but bursting with excitement.

After battling through the piles of luggage we found KK, our in country advisor who gave us a lovely welcome to Nepal. Little did we know we were all in for a shock as we were about to experience the infamous chaotic and crazy driving of Kathmandu. Motorbikes swerved in and out of the traffic and the constant sound of horns beeping certainly overwhelmed me a little. Finally, we arrived at the lovely Orchid Home, run by KK's family which was very comfortable. That night we experienced our first of many meals of Dahl Baht which was actually very tasty.
On the morning of the 5th we woke up early to watch the sunrise over Kathmandu. This was breathtaking and an amazing introduction to Nepal as the snow capped mountains of the Himalayas looked even better than they did on the flight, glowing in the morning sun.

We then headed out to see the hustle and bustle of the city. What struck me the most was the extent of the 2015 earthquake damage as even the roads of the wealthy areas still had rubble everywhere. I could only imagine the damage sustained in the worst affected areas. Throughout the day I think we all felt like a bunch of whosey girls as we were terrified to cross any roads. It was a busy day but a great introduction to Kathmandu and Nepal!
